So I saw this picture today:
Millionaires - congress consists of 245 millionaires of the 535 members which is only 45.79% according to CBS. They stated that 66 in the Senate and 179 in the House or 66 percent of senators are millionaires, as are 41 percent of House members. So close on the millionaire number.
Gender – The Washington post title 80% white and 80% male, as well as 92% Christian, but when you look further down it lists the house at 79.8% and the Senate 94% white so it seems like there is more than 80% white. It also lists 20% of women are in Congress. So close to the gender numbers as well.
It also brings up the point of religion at 92% Christian, while only being 70.6% of the population. So not as bad as some of the other statistics but still a respectable gap.
Age – Average age for representatives is 57.8 and Senators is 61.8 so this one looks like it could be close as well. (https://fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/R44762.pdf)
So do you think they are a fair representation of the USA people?
A video worth watching on the subject.
