Is there more racism today than there was a decade ago?

May 29th 2018 Roseanne Barr (left) said “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj” referring to Valerie Jarrett (right), who is African-American and was born in Iran, was one of Obama's longest- serving advisers.

In response, her show was canceled and her agency dropped her. This is where things get a bit weird. Barr. She apologized… but also retweeted a bunch of tweets supporting her statement. Then blamed Ambien for the tweets.

In response, Trump tweeted “Bob Iger of ABC called Valerie Jarrett to let her know that ‘ABC does not tolerate comments like those’ made by Roseanne Barr. Gee, he never called President Donald J. Trump to apologize for the HORRIBLE statements made and said about me on ABC. Maybe I just didn’t get the call?”

In the press briefing, Sanders said “Where was Bob Iger’s apology to the White House staff for Jemele Hill calling the president and anyone associated with him a white supremacist, to Christians around the world for Joy Behar calling Christianity a mental illness? Where was the apology for Kathy Griffin going on a profane rant against the president on ‘The View’ after a photo showed her holding the president Trump’s decapitated head? And where was the apology from Bob Iger for ESPN hiring Keith Olbermann after his numerous expletive-laced tweets attacking the president as a Nazi and even expanding Olbermann’s role after that attack against the president’s family? This is a double standard that the president is speaking out. Nobody is defending her comments, they are inappropriate, but that’s the point the president was making.”

Aaron Blake from the Washington Post said that equating Sanders list of grievances “you can't make the BIAS argument unless you're suggesting these other, non-racist things were as bad as Roseanne's racist thing. That's implicitly downplaying her racist thing.”

Hate crimes increased 5,850 (2,200%) to a total of 6,121 in 2016. (2017 data hasn’t been released yet)

Do you believe racism was/is being downplayed? Do you think racist just feel emboldened?

Do you think there is more racism today than there was a decade ago?

I think racism is downplayed in some areas and not in others. Generally, the racists are downplaying the racism.

I do feel racists now feel emboldened due to a mob mentality. There are more showing their ugliness and it makes it easier for the rest to join in. We're seeing it more now in the larger public arenas where racists feel safe to spout their hateful opinions. When the POTUS can say hateful things about other races and religions then there is a false sense of security. They feel there are no repercussions since everyone else is doing it so they are free to say what they wish. Roseanne Barr found out that wasn't true.

I think there is less racism BUT the racist that are left are not holding back punches, literally.  Instead of hiding their racism from the public they are proudly displaying it like a trophy. So it makes it appear as if racism has increased when it is just being seen more. A similar comparison is crime in America. We are able to see and hear about crimes happening more in America because we have more access to tv, radio, and internet. We are more aware of it so we conclude that there must be more crime when crime has actually fallen considerably in last 25 years. The media sensationalizes things to get us to watch their shows so they make money. I disbelieve.
