After Assad killed 40+ people with chemical weapons the U.S. bombed Syria, however the war in Syria continues and the next day Assad walks to work with little impact on a country that’s seen years of bombing.
Frederic Hof says “If Assad comes to the conclusion that it is a one-off strike, the Trump Administration will have accomplished nothing, the message to Assad, and the world, frankly, needs to be clear: There is a high price to pay if you develop and use these weapons against civilians.”
But is more bombing the way to go? “Seven years in, some now argue that the only realistic way to stop the war, prevent a jihadist resurgence and allow the country to move on is to acknowledge that Mr. Assad, with help from Iran and Russia, will remain in power and to effectively let him win.”
So what are your thoughts?
Is it time to end the wars in the middle east, or should we double down?
