For years. the Democrats pushed the narrative that Trump colluded with the Russians in the 2016 elections. They pushed that narrative, of course, to get him impeached and removed from office but in doing so they wasted a lot of time, energy and resources that could have been devoted for more purposeful endeavors. Like, I don't know, prepping up a credible candidate for 2020, maybe?
Look at the political scene in the U.S. right now. The Russia collusion story is dead, there is no credible candidate for 2020 aside from Bernie Sanders whom the Democrats haven't fully embraced and it looks like they will ditch him as they did in 2020 and Trump is doing better than ever on foreign policy issues and the economy.
